Famous Pets
How many times we have admired the pets of the celebrities and those who have appeared in movies and television and wished secretly that we owned similar pets as well. These days, pets are considered to be a status symbol and if the President of America, Barack Obama gets a dog Bo in the White House, one can easily estimate a steep rise in the demand of Portuguese Water Dogs.
Similarly, if Paris Hilton sports a Chihuahua in her purse, the fashion conscious line up at the pet shops to get the same breed of pet. And almost everyone must have heard of Benji, Lassie and, of course, the venerable Rin Tin Tin. It is a fact that dogs get the lion’s share of the attention though other pets are also not behind. The ‘Babe’ pig or the ‘Paulie’ parrot have become the sweethearts of millions so before you think the world has gone to the dogs, think again.
When we think of famous cats, the name ‘Morris’ quickly flashes in one’s mind. Morris was the feline icon of 9lives and was a hit instantly. Then there was Margate who was adopted by Churchill after it was found lonely in front of No. 10 Downing Street. Churchill was writing a speech and on seeing the cat considered it as good luck and took it in. The speech was a success and after that slowly but steadily Margate found place in Churchill bedroom.
During the Clinton administration in USA, Socks graced the White House. This cat became so famous that a best seller was written on her life in White House.
There are other famous pets who have got due recognition in the annals of history but the ones mentioned above have a special place in people’s hearts.
