Benji The Hunted

admin | September 30th, 2010

Benji The HuntedBenji The Hunted is a movie with an all-fur cast about how Benji, a determined dog of indeterminate lineage, having been stranded in the wilderness after a shipwreck, took over as foster parent of four orphaned cougar cubs and protected them from sundry predators until he found another mother cougar to take over the job.

Very entertaining movie with many heart-stopping moments. So have your medication handy if your heart is not that robust anymore.

Best in Show

admin | September 30th, 2010

Best in ShowThis movie Best In Show is a very unusual collection of unusual dog owners who bring their pets to vie for the top prize in the Mayflower Kennel Club annual event.
Filmed in a documentary style, it is actually a satirical expose of the primping and prepping that are part and parcel of all dog shows. Said actions not being limited to the quadrupedal participants. Indulgent dog owners who watch this movie are advised that they might find themselves being parodied in the movie.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

admin | September 30th, 2010

Beverly Hills ChihuahuaAt first glance, Beverly Hills Chihuahua seems to be a frivolous movie about frivolous things. After all, Beverly Hills is not well-known as a center of cerebral activity and the Chihuahua is a toy dog.

Surprisingly, the movie has depth and plays on the heart-strings, too. Don’t be surprised to find a tear or two going AWOL while watching it. Even if you are not a dog-lover, you can still identify with the plight of the main characters.

Call of the Wild

admin | November 1st, 2010

The Call of the WildA city girl on holidays in the backwoods found an incapacitated half-wolf and nursed it back to full health to win a sled race. A simple story line for the movie The Call of the Wild but with heart-moving depth and the original Call of the Wild thrown in as a bonus.

There are breath-taking winterscape scenes and memorable acting especially by the canine star. A frisky puppy pops up at the end. Groundwork for a sequel, perhaps?

Cats and Dogs

admin | November 8th, 2010

Cats & DogsCats and dogs are mutually exclusive sets. Period. In the movie, Cats & Dogs, this innate enmity between the two species was presented in a most hilarious juxtaposition of domineering cats, steadfast dogs, crazy scientist and special effects.

All with talking parts, including the bipedal stars. Dog-lovers and cat-lovers would have plenty to root for. Don’t bring your children. They just might want to see it again a few more times. You have been forewarned.

Cujo

admin | October 29th, 2010

CujoSaint Bernards are big, friendly dogs. Right? Wrong! Cujo, the Saint Bernard was very big and very unfriendly.

Very unfriendly like in killing grown men without provocation. Very unfriendly like in attacking a defenseless woman and her young son trapped inside a broken car. Very unfriendly like in making dog-lovers look twice at their beloved canine pets. About par for a movie based on a novel by Stephen King.

Digby, the Biggest Dog in the World

admin | November 15th, 2010

Digby, The Biggest Dog In The WorldImagine Paul Bunyan with long white hair and you get some idea of what Digby, the biggest dog in the world had in store. Accidentally boosted with some experimental growth hormone, a homely Old English Sheepdog, Digby, left his gigantic paw marks all over the English countryside before going back to normal stature.

Wonder what would have been the result if the director had decided to cast a Saint Bernard as Digby? Furious rainstorms every time the Saint Bernard shook it’s head?
